Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been dealt a setback in the ongoing IPL 2026 season after England pacer Brydon Carse was ruled out due to injury, prompting the franchise to bring in star Sri Lanka’s pacer as his replacement.

Brydon Carse sidelined after training injury

Carse has been ruled out of the tournament following a hand injury. The England seamer sustained the injury while batting during a training session ahead of SRH’s opening clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite undergoing recovery, Carse failed to regain full fitness in time to feature in the competition. The franchise management, after assessing his condition, decided to rule him out for the remainder of the season to avoid further complications.

Carse’s absence comes as a blow for SRH, especially considering the team has already been dealing with injuries to key players in their bowling unit.

SRH add Sri Lankan star as Carse’s replacement

To fill the void, SRH have signed Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka for a fee of INR 75 lakh. Madushanka, who was previously associated with Mumbai Indians, is yet to make his IPL debut but brings valuable international experience to the squad. The 23-year-old has represented Sri Lanka across all formats, featuring in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Known for his ability to swing the new ball and generate pace, Madushanka could offer a different dimension to SRH’s bowling lineup.

With conditions in the IPL often favoring aggressive batting, his knack for early breakthroughs could prove crucial for Hyderabad as they look to maintain their playoff push.

SRH’s bowling attack has been in a state of flux this season. The absence of captain Pat Cummins, who is currently recovering from a back injury, has already left a leadership and experience gap in the pace department. Carse’s injury further compounds the issue, forcing the team to rely on a mix of young domestic talent and overseas reinforcements. However, the emergence of promising players like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain has offered a silver lining.

Sunrisers’ campaign in IPL 2026

Sunrisers have had a mixed start to IPL 2026, currently placed fourth on the points table with two wins and three losses. Their campaign began with a defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but they bounced back strongly with a commanding win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, back-to-back losses against Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings briefly stalled their momentum before they returned to winning ways with an emphatic 57-run victory over Rajasthan Royals.

The team’s batting unit has been their biggest strength this season. Led by stand-in captain Ishan Kishan and powered by explosive performances from Heinrich Klaasen, SRH have consistently posted high totals, crossing the 200-run mark in four of their five matches.
