Former Australian opener and current Karachi Kings captain David Warner has been charged with drink-driving following an incident in Sydney, casting a shadow over his ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 campaign.

According to reports, the 39-year-old allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.104—more than double the legal limit of 0.05 for fully licensed drivers in New South Wales. The incident took place on Sunday evening in Maroubra, a suburb in Sydney’s eastern region.

In a statement released by New South Wales Police, officers revealed that Warner stopped and parked his vehicle just before reaching a random breath testing checkpoint. Police then approached the vehicle and conducted a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

Following the initial test, Warner was taken into custody and transported to Maroubra Police Station. A secondary, more accurate breath analysis was conducted, which reportedly confirmed the earlier reading of 0.104.

Authorities have since charged the veteran cricketer with drink-driving. He is scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026, where the matter will be heard.

Impact on PSL 2026 and Karachi Kings

The development comes at a crucial time for the Karachi Kings, who are competing in the 11th edition of PSL. Warner has been leading the side and remains a key figure in their batting lineup. The left-handed batter had been granted a short break from the tournament to return to Australia for personal reasons during a gap in the PSL schedule. His absence coincided with a brief pause between fixtures for Karachi Kings, whose last match was on April 2.

In that game, Warner delivered a strong performance, scoring a composed half-century and guiding his team to an important victory over Rawalpindi. His form has been one of the positives for the franchise in an otherwise competitive season.

Warner is expected to rejoin the squad in Karachi on April 9 for the second leg of the tournament. However, the off-field controversy could potentially create distractions for both the player and the team management as they aim to maintain momentum in the league.
