Sai Sudharsan stole the spotlight on Day 2 of the Delhi Test between India and West Indies with an incredible reflex catch that left both players and fans stunned. The young Tamil Nadu batter, known for his elegant stroke play, showcased his athleticism in the field by pulling off a freak dismissal to send back West Indies opener John Campbell.

It all unfolded during Ravindra Jadeja‘s over when Campbell, attempting to slog sweep, mistimed his shot in the most bizarre fashion. Jadeja floated one just outside off stump, and Campbell went for the big sweep with full conviction. However, the connection wasn’t as clean as expected. Positioned at forward short leg, Sudharsan had little time to react as the ball came hurtling toward him.

What happened next defied logic. The ball ricocheted off Sudharsan’s helmet and chest before sticking between his palms as he instinctively held his hands up in self-defense. The Indian players erupted in celebration while Campbell stood in disbelief. He even required brief medical attention after the unfortunate dismissal.

India in command after Shubman Gill heroics

Earlier in the day, India had declared their first innings at a commanding 518/5, riding on captain Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129. The young skipper once again displayed maturity beyond his years, pacing his innings to perfection and guiding India to a formidable total.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who began Day 2 with an overnight score of 173, unfortunately missed out on a double hundred after a mix-up with Gill led to his run-out on 175. The southpaw looked in sublime touch throughout his innings and laid the perfect foundation for India’s dominance.

Adding to India’s strong position, Nitish Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44) chipped in with useful contributions down the order. The duo kept the scoreboard ticking and ensured that India’s momentum didn’t falter despite the fall of Jaiswal’s wicket.
