Australia’s legendary cricketer Meg Lanning has shared her predictions for the upcoming semi-finals of the , naming the teams she believes will advance to the grand finale. The tournament has reached its decisive phase, and with four top teams — England, South Africa, India, and Australia — battling for a spot in the final, Lanning’s insights have drawn significant attention.

Meg Lanning explains who will get the nod in the first semi-final

The first semi-final will see England lock horns with South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on October 29. Lanning, while speaking on the ICC Review, backed England to edge past the Proteas, citing their consistency and squad depth.

“I think England have been building nicely throughout the tournament and their key players are playing well. You’ve got Nat Sciver-Brunt, Heather Knight, and Sophie Ecclestone, who’ve all done really well. If they get contributions from a few others, they’re a very dangerous side,” said Lanning.

The former Australian captain acknowledged South Africa’s resilience but believes that England’s ability to handle pressure in knockout matches could be the deciding factor.

“Both teams have impressed at different stages, but I think England’s depth and balance will give them the edge,” she added.

England, the 2017 champions, have been in strong form, with Sciver-Brunt and Ecclestone leading their charge in both batting and bowling departments. Meanwhile, South Africa, playing their third consecutive World Cup semi-final, will aim to break their jinx and reach their maiden final.

The second semi-final between India and Australia, scheduled for October 30 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, promises to be a blockbuster. India will have the advantage of home conditions and passionate local support, but Lanning expects her former side to rise to the occasion.

Lanning highlighted that India, led by a confident batting unit, will be a formidable opponent, especially with players like , Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma in top form. However, Australia’s experience and adaptability, she believes, will make the difference in crunch moments.

“I think Australia have just got incredible depth. They’ve shown throughout the tournament that they’re not reliant on one or two players. Even if they lose some early wickets, there’s real power in the lower order that can get them out of different situations,” Lanning added.
