The second Test match between India and West Indies, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14, 2025, has witnessed a commanding performance by the Indian side. India declared their first innings at a massive 518 for 5, led by Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129 and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 175. In response, West Indies were bowled out for 248 runs, trailing by 270 runs, resulting in India enforcing the follow-on early on Day 3.

Shubman Gill’s spectacular catch removes Tagenarine Chanderpaul on Day 3

One of the highlights on Day 3 came in the early stages of West Indies’ second innings when India’s captain Gill pulled off an exceptional catch that put the visitors on the back foot again. Off a delivery by Mohammed Siraj in the 9th over, Chanderpaul attempted a pull shot but miscued the ball. Positioned at short midwicket, Gill raced to his right and dived low to snatch a very low catch, sliding along the ground to secure the dismissal.

The moment was met with jubilant celebrations from Siraj and the Indian team as it marked an early breakthrough for India. Chanderpaul scored 10 runs off 30 balls before his dismissal, struggling to adjust to the cross-seam delivery that hurried him into a poor shot execution. This catch was not only a display of quick reflexes but also a pivotal moment that reinforced India’s control over the game.

Following their dominant first innings, India’s bowlers stepped up to dismantle the West Indies batting lineup. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer with a five-wicket haul, taking 5 for 82 as the West Indies innings collapsed under pressure. Ravindra Jadeja supported well with three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj chipped in with one wicket each. The visitors, who resumed Day 3 at an overnight position of 140/4, could not build sustainable partnerships to challenge India’s imposing total.

West Indies were bundled out for 248 in 81.5 overs, leaving a deficit of 270 runs. This substantial gap led India to enforce the follow-on, forcing the West Indies to bat again immediately without delay. On the second innings, despite a cautious start from openers John Campbell and Alick Athanaze, the visitors found themselves at 53/2 at the close of the second session, still trailing India by 217 runs.

India’s strategic enforcement of the follow-on and relentless bowling pressure have left West Indies facing a steep uphill battle to save the Test. The pitch in Delhi, supportive of both spin and seam bowling, has been expertly exploited by the home side’s bowlers, and with a strong batting lineup still to come, India is well poised to clinch a series victory.
