The first Test of the two-match series between India and West Indies kicked off on October 2, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India’s home season began with a dominant display as their fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered a stunning performance.

The highlight was Bumrah’s unplayable yorker that clean bowled West Indies’ Justin Greaves on Day 1, marking a key moment in India’s impressive bowling effort.

Bumrah, known for his precise yorkers and relentless pace, once again showcased his mastery on the bowling front. In the 39th over of the West Indies innings, Bumrah bowled a perfect yorker that left Greaves helpless. The ball landed right around the crease, full and fast, whisking past Greaves’ bat and clearing his back leg just enough to strike the off stump with tremendous pace. Greaves, who had been one of the few batsmen showing resistance with a gritty 32 runs off 48 balls, was left stunned as the stumps were uprooted, echoing Bumrah’s signature yorker celebrations though his was more subdued this time. This wicket was part of Bumrah’s excellent bowling figures of 12 overs, 3 maidens, 37 runs, and 2 wickets on Day 1.

India bowls out West Indies for a low score in just two sessions

India’s bowling unit dominated throughout the day, bowling out the West Indies for a paltry total of 162 runs in just 44.1 overs. West Indies lost early wickets, with their top order faltering under pressure from the hostile Indian pace attack. Mohammed Siraj led the charge with four wickets, while Bumrah contributed three crucial dismissals. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar chipped in with timely wickets, adding to West Indies’ woes. The visitors showed some fight through Greaves (32), Shai Hope (26), and Roston Chase (24), but lacked partnerships and consistency. The innings was a shambolic display, folding inside two sessions, a rare occurrence in Test cricket.

India’s clinical bowling performance, spearheaded by Bumrah and Siraj, underscored their intent to dominate the two-Test series against a struggling West Indies side. The quick bowling made extensive use of precise length and pace, bringing the ball near the stumps and forcing errors. Bumrah’s yorker to dismiss Greaves was a vivid reminder of his status as one of the world’s premier fast bowlers in this era.
