Bangladesh capped off their ODI series against West Indies in emphatic fashion, registering a 179-run victory in the third and final match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, to claim the series 2–1.

Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan lead Bangladesh’s batting charge

After electing to bat first, the hosts posted a commanding 296/8 on the board, powered by dazzling half-centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan, before dismantling the West Indies batting lineup in just 30.1 overs.

Sarkar, who was later adjudged Player of the Match, continued his superb form with a fluent 91 off 86 balls, striking seven fours and four sixes. His opening partner Saif provided equally strong support with an explosive 80 off 72 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and as many sixes. The pair added a brilliant 142-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the perfect platform for Bangladesh’s innings.

After the blistering start, former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed a steady 44 off 55 balls, featuring three sixes, while Towhid Hridoy played a patient 28 off 44. Despite a middle-order slump, quick cameos from Nurul Hasan (16 off 8) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17 off 17) pushed Bangladesh close to the 300-run mark.

West Indies bowlers endured a tough outing, though Akeal Hosein stood out with a superb spell of 4/41 in his 10 overs, mixing flight and control expertly. Alick Athanaze also chipped in with 2/37, while Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie claimed a wicket each. However, the visitors leaked runs in the death overs, allowing Bangladesh to finish strongly at 296/8 in 50 overs.

West Indies collapse in run chase

Chasing 297 for victory, the West Indies innings never gained momentum. The visitors suffered an early collapse, losing captain Shai Hope (4 off 16) and Ackeem Auguste (0) within the first few overs. The Bangladeshi bowlers exploited the surface expertly, maintaining relentless pressure through spin and variation.

Brandon King top-scored among the top order with a quick 18 off 17 balls, while Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty both made 15 runs apiece. The lower order offered little resistance, barring Akeal Hosein, who struck a valiant 27 off 15 deliveries with four boundaries and one six to briefly delay the inevitable.

Bangladesh’s spinners orchestrated the demolition with surgical precision. Nasum Ahmed was the chief destroyer, returning magnificent figures of 3/11 in 6 overs. Tanvir Islam (2/16) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/35) maintained tight lines, while Rishad Hossain complemented them with 3/54. The West Indies were eventually bowled out for 117 in 30.1 overs, suffering one of their heaviest ODI defeats in recent memory.

Bangladesh clinch series 2-1 with convincing win

This victory marked Bangladesh’s second series win of the year and a fitting end to a competitive contest. The home side had earlier won the first ODI by 74 runs, before the West Indies edged the second match via a thrilling super over. With this dominant display in Mirpur, Bangladesh reaffirmed their growing strength in home conditions.
