Australia’s veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry, a defining presence at the , has given fans a rare, personal peek into her life on tour by sharing her “can’t live without” essentials. Known for her remarkable composure on the field and her status as a genuine cricket icon, Perry’s latest revelations highlight the personal routines and small comforts that keep one of the game’s greatest energized and grounded during the rigours of international cricket.

Things Ellyse Perry can’t live without on tour

Candlelight comfort: Setting the mood

Perry begins her tour essentials with an unexpectedly soothing touch – a travel candle, or sometimes two, always finds a place in her luggage. For the Australian star, the soft illumination and gentle fragrance are more than aesthetics. “I always pack at least one candle, sometimes a couple depending on how long the tour is. I kind of just like having some softer light in my room at night,” she explained on cricket.com.au’s Youtube channel. The practice doubles up as a subtle strategy against the less glamorous side of professional sport – “it often makes my room smell a bit better, especially if I’ve got some dirty training kit hanging around.”

Coffee and calm: The morning ritual

Jet-setting across continents for matches and tournaments, Perry prioritizes mornings as a moment of peace. “Another thing I always take is an air press to make some filter coffee,” she shared. The ritual of brewing fresh coffee isn’t simply about caffeine; it’s a daily anchor amid hectic travel. “When we’re away for a long period, it’s kind of nice to just have a bit of a process – to wake up, open the blinds, have a look at some sunlight, and make a coffee,” she said. It’s a small act that helps ground her before the day’s intensity begins.

The power of music: Setting the vibe

Music, too, is a constant companion. Perry never travels without a portable JBL speaker. “I really enjoy just listening to music or having it on in the background – different vibe for whatever time of day or whatever mood I’m in,” she admitted. Whether it’s to fire up for a match or unwind after a long session, music helps her manage the emotional ebbs and flows of sport and life on the road.

Chasing new tunes: The harmonica experiment

Always eager for new experiences, recounted her recent experiments traveling with a harmonica, hoping to teach herself to play. “Up until recently, I used to travel with a harmonica to try and teach myself. I am so bad at it – it’s kind of become a distant thought,” she laughed. The harmonica, for now, is set aside to preserve the peace of her hotel neighbors, but Perry jokes she may revisit the challenge with a proper teacher someday.

Keepsakes from home: Staying connected

Perhaps most poignant is Perry’s mention of photographs brought from home. “Something we all have with us on this tour is a photo of loved ones – friends and family. It’s always just really nice to pop next to your bed or somewhere in the line of sight in your room, just to see familiar faces that mean a lot to you,” she revealed. In the sometimes-lonely world of international sport, these personal touches are crucial, serving as daily reminders of who and what matters most.

With a touch of typical modesty and self-deprecation, Perry concluded the video, “I found it very boring, but you might have enjoyed it.”
