In a move signalling the next phase of transition in West Indies cricket, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel has announced the squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh, with promising left-handed batter receiving his maiden ODI call-up.

Ackeem Auguste earns maiden ODI call-up

Youngster Ackeem Auguste has replaced Evin Lewis, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury, as the Caribbean side looks to build momentum ahead of a busy international calendar. Auguste’s inclusion reflects the selectors’ intent to groom the next generation of talent. The Saint Lucian batter, who led the West Indies Under-19 side in the 2022 World Cup, has been on the radar for some time owing to his composed technique and stroke play. His performances in regional cricket and the CPL have now earned him a place in the senior side.

Familiar names in ODI squad

Meanwhile, Khary Pierre, who made his Test debut against India earlier this month in Ahmedabad, returns to the ODI setup. He joins Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase as part of a strong spin trio expected to play a key role in subcontinental conditions. Alick Athanaze also finds his way back after last featuring in December 2024, adding depth to the middle order.

Joseph duo back in white-ball action

One of the major boosts for West Indies is the return of fast bowler Shamar Joseph, who, along with Alzarri Joseph, missed the Test tour of India due to injury. Shamar’s pace and aggression have been instrumental in his short international career, and his comeback strengthens both white-ball squads. Motie, too, is set for a return after missing the India Tests due to workload management, as West Indies aim to keep him fresh for the T20 World Cup year.

T20I squad sees fresh faces

The T20I squad features the inclusion of Ramon Simmonds and Amir Jangoo, both of whom have been rewarded for consistent domestic performances. Simmonds, a left-arm quick, impressed in the CPL 2025 with 13 wickets for the Barbados Royals and carried that form into international cricket with a stunning 4 for 15 against Nepal. Jangoo, on the other hand, has been named as the backup wicketkeeper-batter to skipper Shai Hope, continuing his steady rise through the ranks.

With a mix of experienced names like Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, and Romario Shepherd, alongside exciting new faces, the squads reflect a blend of continuity and experimentation.
