Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has come out strongly in support of Indian batting legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, condemning those who continue to criticise the duo despite their recent stellar performances. De Villiers’ comments came after Rohit and Kohli produced a masterclass in the third ODI against Australia, leading India to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli silence critics with dominant partnership
India’s experienced batting pair had faced harsh criticism following their low scores in the opening matches of the ODI series. Rohit managed just 8 runs in the first game, while Kohli was dismissed for a duck in both the first and second ODIs. However, the third and final match saw the seasoned campaigners answer their detractors in style.
Rohit struck a majestic 121 off 118 balls, while Kohli contributed a fluent 74, steering India to victory with a commanding 168-run stand. Their partnership not only sealed a convincing win for the hosts but also reminded fans and critics alike of their unmatched class and experience in pressure situations.
AB de Villiers defends Ro-Ko from ‘unfair negativity’
Speaking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers expressed his disappointment at how quickly some people turn against players when they approach the later stages of their careers. The former Proteas batter didn’t hold back, using strong words to describe the negativity directed at the two Indian superstars.
“I don’t know what it is about people — or if I can even call them that. Cockroaches crawling out of their holes as soon as players get towards the backend of their careers. Why? Why would anyone pour negative energy into players who have given their lives for their country and for this beautiful game of cricket? This is the perfect time to celebrate them,” said De Villiers.

De Villiers urges fans to celebrate legends
De Villiers, who shares a close friendship with both Rohit and Kohli, further stated that while a small section of fans may criticise them, the majority still appreciate their contributions to Indian cricket. He urged everyone to focus on celebrating their achievements rather than tearing them down.
“They have taken a lot of criticism in the last few months. Everyone seems to be trying to push them down, and I have no idea why. Obviously, I’m referring to a minority because I think most people still celebrate Rohit and Virat and their incredible careers. It’s a fantastic time to celebrate them once again,” added De Villiers.
