The stakes couldn’t be higher as Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first against India in their second Super Four encounter of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The equation is simple, a win will secure India’s place in the final. If the Suryakumar Yadav-led side gets over the line, they will move to four points, eliminating Sri Lanka, who can only finish with a maximum of two. Bangladesh and Pakistan, on the other hand, would remain level on two points each, with their direct clash set to decide the second finalist.

Asia Cup 2025: Reason behind Litton Das’ absence for the super 4 game vs India

In a major setback for Bangladesh, captain Litton Das suffered a back injury during training ahead of the big clash. Although he reached the ground on match day, he was unable to complete his warm-up and eventually returned to the dressing room. In his absence, Jaker Ali has been handed the responsibility of leading the team. Litton’s absence will be felt deeply. Though his batting form dipped after a promising half-century against Hong Kong, his leadership has been crucial in guiding Bangladesh to vital wins over Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Replacing that experience, especially in a high-pressure game against India, will be no easy task.

“He got injured during a practice session and unfortunately he misses out on this crucial game. I am excited and looking forward to this game. We are doing really well as a team and we will try to give our best,” Jaker Ali said at the toss.

Bangladesh rang in four changes to their side for this high-stakes clash. Parvez Hossain Emon came in as Litton’s replacement at the top of the order. Taskin Ahmed was dropped, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib taking his place. Mohammad Saifuddin returned to the XI, replacing Shoriful Islam.

Asia Cup 2025: India’s place in the final at stake

India captain Suryakumar Yadav welcomed the opportunity to bat first. He emphasized the importance of sticking to processes, especially in the middle overs, and addressed India’s fielding lapses against Pakistan, where multiple catches went down. With a place in the final at stake, both sides will be under immense pressure, but it is India who enter with momentum and clarity, while Bangladesh face the challenge of regrouping quickly after the blow of losing their captain.

“We are happy doing it. We have got what we wanted in the last 4-5 games and we are happy to bat first. We have to follow the good things that we have been doing and the results will take care of itself. The boys have done their bit, it is part of the game (dropped catches).” Suryakumar said.
